For Fido... Portland's Best Dog Parks.
Portland is a fantastic place to be a canine. We have dog-friendly coffee shops and breweries, we have some of the strongest laws in the country protecting animals from abuse, and to top it all off we have the most dog parks per capita of any major metro in the country. Dog parks are a great bonding experience for you and your furry friend, and a safe incubator to test your dog’s social skills with other dogs and their owners (if you have a dog with known behavioral issues we don’t recommend attending a public dog park when other dogs or people are present until the dog has undergone adequate training). Check out this blog to see some of Portland’s best dog parks.
Sandy River Delta
Crown Point Hwy, Troutdale, OR 97060
If you want to take your pup for a ride, you can head out to Troutdale and visit Sandy River Delta Park. Featuring wonderful hikes, views, nature and dog trails, you can bring your furry friend but make sure you have a leash in hand for the leash-on zones. $5/day for parking, adequate water and sun protection should ensure you and your pup have a fantastic day.
Gabriel Dog Park: Winter/Summer Sections
Summer Section: 7000-7198 SW 45th Ave., Portland, OR
Winter Section: 4115 SW Canby Street, Portland, OR
Gabriel Park is a large dog park in SW Portland comprised of two sections: one summer section and a winter section surfaced with sand for when the former gets too muddy. Because of the large geographic footprint of the park, dog owners are requested to have a good handle over voice training and commands. There are picnic tables for two-legged family members but poop bags are not provided, so please bring your own.
The Fields
1099 NW Overton Street, Portland, OR
Just a hop, skip, and a wag from the Willamette River downtown, The Fields is perfect for downtown residents and their dogs, or dog families taking a day trip to downtown looking to blow off some steam. Divided into a big dog portion and a small dog portion, The Fields is inclusive for dogs (and owners) of all shapes and sizes. Picnic areas, play areas, and accessible restrooms are all available at The Fields.
Luuwit View Park
NE 127th Ave. and NE Fremont Street, Portland, OR 97230
In Portland’s Argay neighborhood lies Luuwit View Park, a 16 acre park by Shaver Elementary. Featuring soccer fields, a leash-off dog area, foot and bike paths, Luuwit View Park is named after the Cowlitz native word for Mt. St. Helens. Relatively young, Luuwit View Park was developed in 2017 and is still the most developed park in the Parkrose Neighborhood, an up and coming neighborhood for young, dog-owning families that didn’t formerly have access to a neighborhood park.
